Reflection: How God has used YWAM DP this past year

One of my favorite things about celebrating New Years is the opportunity to reflect on the past year and see what God has done. In January-February, I was with DP on the boats in Honduras, discipling students for future ministry. In March-July, I was back in Belize with the April school preparing them for their outreach to Guatemala. In July-September, I was in Guatemala working alongside a church in Fronteras and the YWAM base in Guatemala City. And from September-December, I was back on base in Belize with the September school. It has been amazing what God has done through DP this year: the children who have been loved, the people who have been fed, the prostitutes who were prayed for, etc. I feel so honored and blessed to be joining God with what He has been doing in these countries. It’s unbelievable to look back to the differenct places He has carried me physically and the spiritual growth that He has brought about in me. I can’t WAIT to see what He has planned for 2011!!

Kirsten: Embracing God’s Gifts

So I want to tell you a story about one of the girls in my small group for the September school. Kirsten stood out from the crowd from the very beginning and I was excited to get a chance to know her. The thing was that God had given her a strong leadership gifting and the gift of wisdom and an ability to disciple others. The problem was that Kirsten didn’t see her strengths; instead, she only saw her flaws. She couldn’t believe that God would use her to do something important for Him. As the three months passed, she slowly realized that, not only did God want to use her, He made her so that He could use her. I wanted to tell this story because I think that this a common lie that we listen to SO often. I know there have been many times that I have doubted my ability to do anything of worth but that is a lie from the pit of hell!!! God made us all uniquely capable for tasks that He sets before us and He can’t wait for us to embrace what He’s given us. We have faith in God but do we believe that He has faith in us?

Thank you so much for you interest in my adventures and for your support!

The Kingdom of God is worldwide, and He is doing some amazing things on every continent. We here at The Crossing are making an impact in lives of many different nations with the Love of Christ. Through the missions ministry, we as a congregation, partner with missionaries around the globe. We help sustain them in work through financial giving and prayer.

Please be in prayer for all of our missionaries and their families as they continue their partnership with Christ to expand his Kingdom in the hearts of those overseas.

As part of our 10for10 Initiative, we are partnering with Compassion International and Stadia New Church Strategies with the hope of planting and building a church in Ecuador. Right now a team from The Crossing is looking to some promising possibility of what it would take to be in Ecuador full time.

In total, the 10for10 Initiative will cost $500,000 and we are well on our way to making that goal. A huge “Thank You!” for those of you who were able to give to this global mission. There is still time to give if you feel led to do so on the weekends during offering or online at this link, https://www.thecrossingonline.com/donation/ We are also planting and building churches in the following areas:

The Crossing, South Tulsa

The Crossing, India

Ti-Bukan, Haiti

Atari, Punjab, India

As God continues to strengthen their family and ministry Chad and Alicia Edwards look forward to establishing long term leadership roles in Taiwan. Missionaries have to make sure there is a concrete plan within the church before they move on to wherever God calls them next. Questions begin to arise as the transition takes place but all of that is a normal process. The Edwards, along with other Team Expansion missionaries, hosted a week long training course to help mobilize the church through a biblical worldview. The Kairos training (kairos meaning “opportune time”) really made a difference and reignited the fire to get the job done in Taiwan and all over the world.

Please pray that 20 members of their church will sign up for the course. Also pray for the Sports and English camp coming up July 11-17.

“I have a plan for the whole earth, for my might power reaches throughout the world.” (Isaiah 14:26)

This week we will make our initial trip into Burma (Myanmar) to secure our Invitation Letter (you need an Invitation Letter to get a long-term visa) and to look for an apartment to rent. We have been in contact with a couple of people who live in Yangon (the “Hub” city of Burma), and they have given us some good information to begin the process of securing a place to live.

While in Yangon, we will meet up with Jim and Andrew (two of our new team members who have been in country for 3 weeks). After returning to Chiang Mai, we plan to have a yard sale to sell pretty much all our stuff. We will be taking very little into Burma. Our Landlord already has renters for the house and we have also sold many household items. Kelli will be moving back to the states the second week of July now that the school year is over. At that time we will need to make another trip back to Yangon for Visa requirements. At this point, our plans are to make our move into Yangon during our mid July trip or during the first of August. Wow, this is actually happening ! Our 3 years of patient waiting and preparation is paying off.

Our Time in the States

We had a wonderful time with our kids, grandsons, parents and siblings! Our time with friends was encouraging and such a blessing to us! We celebrated Candace and David’s graduation and their wedding!! Aubrey finished her first year of College at HIU!! We watched Tanner play soccer – he was a great goalie and scored 2 points!! We celebrated Birthdays and Anniversaries. And we said, “Good-Bye”to a Best Friend. Canyon Ridge provided us with a house and a car, which was such a great benefit for our Home Assignment!!

Present Needs:

Financial partners are our biggest need right now. Because of costly new Visa travel requirements, we need to increase our monthly support. We are also needing relocation funds as we move. You can partner with us thru “Pioneers”. We have attached a donation form with this newsletter or you can give at www.pioneers.org. Our account number is 110928.

Prayer Requests:

Russ’s Mom has been diagnosed with cancer. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy and it seems to be easing her pain and fatigue. Sydney’s Brother – Perry – also has cancer. In May, he had his hip socket removed and is now awaiting further surgery options.

Return to the Mothership: My visit to the States

For two weeks this month, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the States. One of the biggest shocks of returning home was the cold weather!! I was SO cold. I spent the next few days hanging out with family and friends. I was so happy that I got to spend Easter with my family. It’s the first holiday we all got to celebrate together since Christmas 2008.

The day after Easter, my mom and I got up at 4 am and steered the car towards Las Vegas. Nate and Emily, friends from The Crossing Church, took us in and put us up for a week. It was so wonderful to see my Vegas family again. I had the opportunity to share what I had been doing these past 9 months and say thank you for all of the support I had received. After a fun night of bingo, we left the next day to go back to San Jose. On my last night in San Jose, my parents hosted a dinner for family and friends and I again shared all that I had been up to since leaving in September. The next morning I headed to the airport at 4 in the morning and got on a plane back to Belize. It was SO nice getting to spend some time back home. I thank God for the opportunity and the finances that got me home and back.

Adventure DTS April 2010

I am so excited about the start of this April DTS. This quarter we are trying a different program called Adventure DTS. It is basically combining the sailing and diving elements of DTS into one school so the students will experience the best of both worlds. This is a bit of an experiment so keep this school in your prayers that things will run smoothly and the students will get what they need from the school. We have spent last week doing staff training and I am just so, so happy with our staff. The trainings have felt fun and natural but also informative and educational. The students came on Tuesday and already we have had a lot of fun!

This past week we´ve been in the south of Chile working a lot with people. Counseling and working mainly with a local church. We´ve mainly worked with earthquak and tsunami victims. Its truley amazing to see how God is using us here to meet not only emotional needs, but physical and spiritual needs as well.

While I work and watch the process of counseling I can see Gods hand in all of this and how he´s raising me up to be used by him. I´m so excited to see what he wants to do!

She is currently in Chile attending a YWAM school, the following paragraph is from Amanda to let us know what she is doing.

I’m currently in Pichilemu, Chile post earthquake and God is definitely showing up. I’m doing a biblical counseling school through YWAM which focuses on training programs in counseling that have learning goals in three areas, with emphasize in these areas: Personal Development, Skill Development, and Cognitive Development. God’s intention for the personality, authority through intercession, cross-cultural counseling, and the role of the counselor. The school is a focus on healing so you can administer healing to others. I feel like its a follow up to the discipleship training school i went through and then staffed in Mexico. God is revealing things to me and just preparing me to administer healing to the nations. I’m praying about going on outreach, but I’m not sure yet. Keep me in your prayers..
